“God is always trying to give us good things, but our hands are too full to receive them.”
~St. Augustine
Around the time I had decided it was time for me to get serious about my commitment to prayer, I was reading a book entitled “Jesus, Life Coach,” by Laurie Beth Jones. In it, she describes a personal ritual she has whereupon whenever she sees a ladybug, she takes it as a love note from Jesus. “I see you. I love you. I’m with you.”
The first thing I did after reading this was to chide myself for thinking God might not be interested in making this deal with me. Nonsense. He is always trying to manifest his love for us in any number of ways.
So I selected a dragonfly as “our” messenger. Can I tell you how much fun this has been? The many unexpected moments in which a dragonfly has appeared before me and I am reminded to stop and say, “Thank you, God. I love you too.” Sometimes I laugh at God’s timing and chuckle at the sudden appearance of a dragonfly when I am caught up in my own schedule and busyness. So often it has helped me to get my priorities back on track and left a smile on my face.
Last year, on a particularly tough day, I went out on my back patio to pray as I will often do and as I sat in tears, I looked up to see a cloud of dragonflies hovering over my yard.
“I see you. I love you. I’m with you.”
“Thank you, God. I needed that. I love you too.”
“Do you believe you are worth a special ritual?
(You are).”

Isaiah 55:3 (MSG)
Pay attention, come close now, listen carefully to my life-giving, life-nourishing words. I'm making a lasting covenant commitment with you, the same that I made with David: sure, solid, enduring LOVE.
