That Which Cannot Be Shaken

My feet are planted
on this rock
And I will not be shaken
~Australian Hillsongs, “All Things Are Possible”

My thoughts over the past week have been occupied with events that shake us to the core of our beings and threaten our foundations. The recent earthquake in Haiti started me thinking about how individuals strive to recover from events of great magnitude in their lives, natural or human.

Events that shake us to the core leave our souls bruised, our hope weakened, and our connection to God feeling fragile.

We wonder, "How is it that still we stand?" There is something that God gives to us that speaks louder than words and concrete answers as to these mysteries of life that leave us battered and bruised:

It’s all grace.

Bonhoeffer writes about grace being free, but that it is not cheap. It comes at a cost:

"It is costly because it costs a man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life. It is costly because it condemns sin and grace because it justifies the sinner. Above all, it is costly because it cost God the life of his Son: “ye were bought at a price,” and what has cost God much cannot be cheap for us. Above all, it is grace because God did not reckon his Son too dear a price to pay for our life, but delivered him up for us. Costly grace is the Incarnation of God."

I came to a point in my life where I realized that whatever happens in my life, there is no place where I can go to hide from God. I may pull away from him, question him, neglect him, but he will never abandon me. The harsh realities of the world may try and drive a wedge between Him and I, but there is a security which is the priceless gift of grace that marries both the mysteries and realities of the world we live in to a Groom who has committed his love and support to us unconditionally.

My hope it comes
from You alone
My Lord and my salvation

Hebrews 12:27 - This phrase, "Yet once more," indicates the removal of what is shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.

Isaiah 54:10 - For even if the mountains walk away and the hills fall to pieces, My love won't walk away from you, my covenant commitment of peace won't fall apart."
The God who has compassion on you says so.
