Super Thriving in the Holy Present

When I was growing up, I spent a lot of time helping my parents gardening in our orchard. Whenever we would plant something, we would add the tiniest spoonful of “Super Thrive” to the water. My teenage brain wondered how such a tiny bit could make a difference in comparison to the gallon of water we put it in, but this was some highly concentrated potion! The bold claims on the packaging always fascinated me:

“Extra Life”
“Greatest Guarantee-Offer Proof Ever”
“#1 Activator”
“#1 Reviver”
“#1 Extra Grower”
“Millions of Molecules of World’s Science Miracles in Each Drop”

Galatians 6 tells us to “Sow to the Spirit.” Each morning, we have a new opportunity to decide how and where we will plant our seeds of the day. But unless we “Sow to the Spirit,” we risk that our cultivating will be non-productive. So how do we “Sow to the Spirit”? The best way we can do that is by offering ourselves up to help bear one another’s burdens.

Bear one another’s burdens,
and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
~Galatians 6:2

The number one law of Christ?
“Love one another, as I have loved you.”

~John 13:34-35

When we put our feet on the floor to get out of bed, we can perceive it as just another day or we can commit to not just thrive, but to super thrive in the holy present, thereby cultivating in ourselves the Fruit of the Spirit (LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GENEROSITY, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, SELF-CONTROL). The Holy Spirit is ready and willing to add that Super Thrive to the good we bring to others today.

Wherever you find yourself needed today, “Millions of Molecules of Miracles” might result from a mere concentrated drop of your attention for someone whose burden you can share.
